SPIRIT OF THE SOUTH - Winds of Change - 2008 Media Trip

“Spirit of the South – The Winds of Change”
Media Trip – October 21 - 24, 2008

Jonesboro, Georgia (June 25, 2008) Let us surprise you with an engaging journey of discovery that celebrates the history, diversity and industry of Scarlett’s beautiful South! From Margaret Mitchell’s ‘Tara’ and her family’s legacy in Jonesboro, Georgia (the best kept secret only 15 minutes from Atlanta) to the majestic panorama of living history and current eco-conscious travel adventures – you are cordially invited to sip a cool Southern lemonade and join us for the “Spirit of the South – Winds of Change.”

The Clayton County Convention and Visitors Bureau, located in Jonesboro, - and I are hosting 12 travel journalists for a 3-night visit from Tuesday, October 21 thru October 24. This is the gateway to the antebellum South where hardworking immigrants from all over the world flocked to the rolling green hills of Georgia and quickly fell in love with the rich soil and a chance to build a new life. Today’s rhythm of living brings winds of change through magnificent cultural advancements, a passion for today’s technology, art, cuisine and expression. It’s a complex tapestry of tragedy and triumph that shapes all human experience – resulting in a rich travel adventure for individuals and families to share together.

THEN: You’ll taste the warmth of slow-cooked bbq, be welcomed to ‘Stately Oaks Plantation’ by Rhett & Scarlett for a bourbon punch in the parlor, visit one of the Civil War’s unmarked cemeteries, share the spotlight and grand costumes of Gone With the Wind’s authentic Hollywood memorabilia.

NOW: As the winds of change blow our way, you’ll learn about ecological wonders by building a butterfly house or hiking through the undiscovered trails at Reynolds Nature Preserve and enjoy one of the finest evenings of celebrated masterworks music at Spivey Hall. The Atlanta Speedway is thrilling and the National Archives is inviting us for a private reception.

BUT - we must keep a few surprises hidden until you’re here …for “After all, Tomorrow is another Day”. (Margaret Mitchell’s GONE WITH THE WIND 1939)

If you are interested in joining us for the October 2008 “Spirit of the South – Winds of Change” trip, please email or call and it will be my pleasure to send you a FAM Questionnaire form. (Airfare and ground transportation not included). We will be selecting 12 qualified journalists on assignment.

Participating Towns in Clayton County: College Park, Forest Park, Lovejoy, Jonesboro, Morrow, Riverdale and Stockbridge.
