Eagle Island - Leigh Cort Introduction

PRIVATE ISLANDS OF GEORGIA – Eagle Island

A totally ‘green’ adventure awaits you

Boating:
When you travel the ‘inside passage’ to one of the Private Islands of Georgia, boaters will experience excellent dockage with many sheltered bays from the Atlantic Ocean’s currents and winds. With an unexplored cluster of small islands to circumnavigate, Cap’n Andy Hill will direct you to private coves and historic waterways by providing tidal and navigation charts along the central Georgia coast. Chart your course to uninhabited cays and hidden deserted islands whose history spans five centuries of American culture. Sweeten the voyage by fishing and crabbing, suitable for beginners and the most experienced sport fishermen.

Bring your own boat or hire one of ours. Every mile traveled connects you with a water-world that leads you to paradise; the fish become more colorful, the water clearer and the wildlife brilliantly reflective of one of the best kept secret boating adventures in America. Sail or motor to private beaches where you can lie in the white puffy sand or swim in our warm waters year-round. The back barrier Georgia islands are Cap’n Hill’s specialty. Let him guide you to heaven!

Eco Friendly:
The Private Islands of Georgia are eco-friendly ~ where you can relax and reduce your ecological footprint while enjoying a ‘sustainable’ vacation. Andy Hill is an environmentalist who salvages treasures from his surroundings. Eagle Lodge and May Hall are created with 90% reclaimed materials that include vintage brick, windows, bath fixtures, doors, flagstone, plants, furniture, fencing, sunken ships, ballast stone and even old docks.

Arriving on the islands, guests are immediately fascinated with the hand made arbors, constructed from fallen cedar trees found in the island woods and pathways created from local oyster shell beds. Andy has gathered wood from old home foundations, docks and bridges, even reclaimed cypress flooring from old homes on the Georgia coast. Fireplace columns that support the mantles (heart pine) have been stripped and finished along with reclaimed teak artifacts and furniture gathered from around the Southeast.

Guests immediately notice the Lodges’ front doors from a 1940’s Sea Island cottage, chandeliers, lighting and cabinetry salvaged from yachts and old hotels, firepit and fireplaces from reclaimed brick and an Adirondack boat that is now a book shelf on the wraparound porch.

Come to Eagle Island and remember when life was simple.

The interior of the lodge will charm and delight you. It has been furnished and outfitted to pamper the body and nourish the soul and does a fine job of accomplishing its goal. The full length windows allow sunlight to fill the entire lodge. The furniture is luxurious and centered around a beautiful brick fireplace. A distinctive carving adorns above the fireplace and is reminiscent of the Tree Spirits of St. Simons Island. Imagine cool fall evenings, a roaring fire, spiced cider and your one and only.
