I confess that I was seduced at dinner. It’s not something that I would normally announce to everyone I know. I have a very private do-not-divulge to anyone side but I yearn to expose my new love. Intoxicating sounds of yachts in the harbor made my heart beat faster and the flirtations were obvious. I was lured into a world of beguiling beauty wherever I looked.
There I’ve said it. I’m in love with Kingfish Grill, St. Augustine’s tempting waterfront restaurant. It’s an A-lister, an effervescent contemporary seafood café turning heads. It touches on today’s dining buzz by combining culinary seafood favorites while not flinching at innovative sushi, fine steaks or casual bistro-burger fare combinations.
Owner Paul Mackey and General Manager Beth Mincher share an amazing synergy both compelling and admirable. Their credentials are impressive and the menu takes you on a global culinary trip for lunch and dinner. Consider a few of my favorites. From New England: Clam Chowder…Kingfish Grill won the 2006 1st Prize for their Chowder in St. Augustine’s heralded ‘Chowder Debate 2006’. Crabcakes and Fisherman’s Stew are excellent too, along with Horseradish Encrusted Grouper. From the UK: Hand-breaded Fish & Chips. Greece: Mediterranean salad with feta cheese, kalamata olives and roasted red peppers. Japan: Sushi Bar specialties from Fried Oyster Roll to Spicy Crab Roll. Southern USA: Pulled Pork with Chipotle Peach BBQ Sauce.
St. Augustine boasts a reputation for eclectic and romantic dining options. This one is magical. A well-kept secret only to those who have yet to find it, with nearly 400 boat slips and 24 shops and services offered at the Camachee Cove Marina, it’s a self-contained community with luxury homes and condos that enjoy having Kingfish Grill at their fingertips. Easily accessible to boaters on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, this is a restaurant you can fall in love with..even on a Tuesday afternoon in the rain. It’s a sexy little treasure in a neighborhood resembling something out of a California beach flick!
The artists who have merged their talents and ideals to create a dining ‘party’ for guests to enjoy are making food matter. Paul Mackey knows that the highest quality food can only be prepared from absolute top quality ingredients. While the caring staff guarantees that this casual dining experience is a good one, Beth Mincher keeps everything on an even ‘keel’.
“I love the Cheers-style neighborhood friendliness that keeps our guests happy. The restaurant maintains a high spirited ambience paired with our guests’ energy and vibrancy too. And it always feels like there’s something special happening”. My suggestion to today’s restaurant addicts: Move over and make a place at your table for the King!
