Roslyn Burrough - The Magic of Broadway

Roslyn Burrough

The Magic of Broadway –
Center Stage for Edward Waters College
Welcoming New President Dr. Claudette H. Williams

Jacksonville, Fl (March 2) “The President’s Inaugural Concert” at Jacoby Hall on March 13 launches a rich celebratory 4-day weekend for Edward Waters College new President – Dr. Claudette H. Williams. The concert features the Jacksonville Symphony, Edward Waters College Choir and one of Broadway’s ‘Brightest Star’ Divas – Roslyn Burrough.

From her Broadway career in ‘The Wiz’ to performing for Pope John Paul II, Burrough’s voice and exuberance for music and life are enormous, nurtured during her childhood in Jacksonville by her Mother, noted Gospel singer Alice Burrough Brayboy.

Burrough’s musical conductor, Linda Twine, will be joining her at Jacoby Hall. Equally renowned, she is currently conducting Oprah Winfrey’s production of ‘The Color Purple’ on Broadway. They met in the 1970’s while working together on ‘The Wiz’; their appearance will pay tribute to Dr. Williams’ new appointment (the first female president during College’s succession of 28 leaders).

“I’ve performed around the world from South Korea and the Ghana region of Africa to Italy, China and Japan. But coming home to Jacksonville and being invited by Edward Waters College to sing with our Symphony is a great honor” comments Burrough. “I’ve chosen highlights in my career for the program – from Spirituals and Jazz to Broadway and Gospel. This is the music that I’m made of.”

Dr. Samuel Shingles, Choir Director at Edward Waters College, is conducting the 25-voice Choir with selections that spans from the classics to young Gospel artist Kirk Franklin. The Symphony selections will include the Mozart Coronation Mass and others.
