Chef Jeff Kaplan Joins The King and Prince 2012

The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort Introduces NEW Executive Chef
‘A Chef who combines Nature & Nurture in his Menus’

St. Simons Island, Georgia (May 2012) There is a new BUZZ at the historic King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort on St. Simons Island, Georgia. Chef Jeff Kaplan has arrived to lead the culinary initiatives that bring SOUTHERN CULINARY TRADITIONS to life.

CHEF BIO:
With a culinary career that has spanned many renowned hotels, restaurant and resorts from New York to Miami, Kaplan’s philosophy and passion combine ‘nature and nurture’. He grew up in family catering and deli restaurants, so his transition into the kitchen was his destiny. One of his first positions was under the direction and watchful eye of Chef Joe Eisenbuchner (formerly of Le Cirque, NYC). The twenty-five year journey took him to highly respected establishments that included The Inn at Great Neck (Long Island), The White Elephant Resort (Nantucket), and Sawgrass Marriot Golf Resort and Spa (Ponte Vedra Beach).

RESORT PHILOSOPHY:
The King and Prince believes in and supports numerous community functions, a perfect match for Kaplan’s involvement with his own philanthropic outreach, which has included Tom Coughlin’s Jay Fund, Caring Chefs, Cystic Fibrosis ‘Kick Off For a Cure’ and hundreds more.

Drawn to enhancing the natural flavors of fresh local foods, he appreciates the individual steps taken to prepare a dish which begins with respecting the origin of ingredients and recipes themselves. He feels a strong connection with cooking ‘fresh’ and ‘seasonal’, embracing the Farm to Table Movement…another initiative that comes to life under the Resort’s Food & Beverage Director Vinny D’Agostino. “I’m excited about learning the local/regional Georgia culinary culture and to me, The King and Prince is at the heart of Southern Hospitality” Kaplan proclaims.

At the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort, there are numerous dining locations that Chef Kaplan will be overseeing: The historic Delegal Dining Room, oceanfront Kings Tavern, the Ocean Terrace Grille and catered special events that specialize in meetings and weddings.

CHEF QUOTE:
Chef Kaplan continues “I’m a Chef that likes to ‘follow my food’…from the kitchen to the guest. I enjoy pleasing people with delicious dishes and I thrive on their feedback. Food is very powerful, and is at the forefront of life's important events; thus flavors and scents are intertwined with generations of memories. I’m so fortunate to now becoming a part of The King and Prince. It encompasses all I love about the hospitality industry, and does so in a breathtaking island setting.”

CHEF’S FAMILY:
Chef Jeff Kaplan moves to The Golden isles of Georgia with his wife Mandy who has been in the hospitality industry for sixteen years as well as his three children. They are all following in their Dad’s footsteps:
• MiKaela (16) – hostessing in a favorite restaurant
• David Michael (15) – won the culinary career student at Florida School for the Deaf this year
• Rielly (12) – enjoys baking cakes for the family’s special events.
They all agree that their hearts are tied together with all things culinary and they, too, are happy to now live in the Golden Island of Georgia.
