Ponte Vedra Beach News

Bistro de Leon’s Chef Jean-Stephane Poinard has JBF 2011 proudly embroidered on his white jacket — a symbol of being chosen to cook in November 2011 for the James Beard Foundation in New York City.

A fifth generation chef from Lyon, France, Poinard’s passion is preparing delicious adventures for the palate, and playing a close second to his stellar performance in the kitchen is his sincere interest in the patrons who frequent his restaurant. Recently, another French chef, Bess Turk, traveled from Ponte Vedra Beach to experience Bistro de Leon and meet the chef she’s heard so much about. Turk, who lived in Aix-en-Provence and took cooking lessons in Marseilles for four years, has been providing beautiful meals to friends for decades. As the two chefs chattered in French about friends, food preparation and wine choices, the dishes prepared by Poinard were thoroughly enjoyed by all present, including your columnist.

Bistro de Leon will be open for brunch on Labor Day, Sept. 3, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and then for regular hours beginning at 5 p.m. Definitely a labor of love, Poinard’s French cuisine is a delight. For information, go to www.bistrodeleon.com
