Aug. 2009 =  Historical Street Welcomes New Tenant ~ By: Susan Friedman | No Comments |

Wander down cobblestoned Aviles Street (ah-VEE-lace) in St. Augustine and stop at #6: the new home of Cellar 6 (cellar6.net), open only four months. Walking in, the guitarist upfront was crooning a Dylan tune. A mix of boomers and a just a tad younger, filled the place on a steamy Saturday night. The cozy couch-like seating was all taken, but the bar had its own appeal, with lots of brick and a view of art throughout, much of it abstract. Pairing Four Graces, an organic cabernet with nibbles, I chose a cheese plate for one ($10, or $18 for two), with beautiful Wensleydale with cranberries and sharp cheddar plus melon; and Cellar bruschetta ($10), ciabatta with Parmesan, pesto, roma tomatoes and mozzarella. The homemade balsamic vinaigrette was the best. Besides this fab new find (look for a full review in our Nov./Dec. issue), I can’t wait to walk Aviles Street by day, and explore the intriguing shops (local St. Augustine honey sat tempting me in a window) and historical architecture too.
