Spring Lake, NJ (July 2008) If you’re thinking about September being a great month to celebrate GRANDPARENTS DAY all month long - and something fun for the entire family to ‘make memories’ - or JUST getting away with the GRANDKIDS – spend 2 nights at the Spring Lake Inn (circa 1888). For all grandchildren under the age of 12, the Inn is giving them a book of rides at Jenkinsons Boardwalk Amusement Park, a perfectly memorable fun place for kids’ first amusement park adventure. Jenkinsons turned back the clock 70 years in 1998 when they added a Fun House to their 1928 amusement park and aquarium.
Only a short drive from Spring Lake, Jenkinsons in Pt. Pleasant Beach, has been a legendary destination of family fun for nearly a century. Originally a Pavilion featuring candy shop, soda fountain, swimming pool and novelty store, it grew into a 1929 dance hall and miniature golf course. Tourists came to enjoy the invigorating sea air and family pleasures of a miniature train ride along the beach and kiddie park in the early 1950’s. Fast forward to the 1980’s, new owners created a waterslide complex to replace the aging swimming pool & miniature golf. Today after a nearly 4 generations of changes, Jenkinsons has made room for family-oriented rides, a large pavilion with dining and Aquarium. Of course the Fun House is always the most fun – where mazes, ‘shrinking’ rooms, a rotating tunnel, trick mirrors and moving floors will enchant the kids AND their grandparents!
