The Breakers Hotel: Spring Lake, New Jersey

Property
Built in the late 1800s, The Breakers Hotel is an original grand hotel from the Victorian era, the last one remaining in Spring Lake. It has an outdoor heated swimming pool, separate kiddie pool, complimentary beach access and full-service restaurant. It’s also within walking distance of a playground. All guest rooms have a mini-fridge. Most also have a whirlpool bath, fireplace, VCR and DVD player. The Two Queens rooms are popular with families. The more spacious Luxury Superior and Luxury Deluxe rooms have king beds, pull out sofas, and room for a rollaway bed, and are recommended for families with more than two children. Cribs are available upon request, and children of all ages stay free.

Location
One of only two hotels right on the beach, The Breakers location can’t be beat. It’s very convenient for the back-and-forth needed for meals and naps. Kids can be out the door and on the beach within minutes. Even better, Spring Lake is located on a two-mile uncommercialized boardwalk, so you can enjoy the sand and waves rather than endless requests for pizza and taffy.

Sleeps
2-6.

Highlights
Beach swimming, shopping, the Sea Girt lighthouse (the last live-in lighthouse built in the U.S.) and biking. Six Flags is also located within 25 minutes distance. St. Catharine’s church on Spring Lake has been beautifully restored to its Irish-Italian roots. Kids will enjoy the tasty treats at Jean Louise Homemade Candies. Allaire State Park is a 7-mile bike ride (or 10-minute drive) away, and has steam-powered train rides and a re-creation of an early 19th century industrial iron-producing community

Good to Know
Two to three-night minimum stays apply on weekends from June through September. Large wedding parties often take place in the hotel on the weekends.
